Michigan QB Wilton Speight fires back at Penn State fan: ‘Stay classy’

Michigan QB Wilton Speight didn’t hold back after a Penn State fan fired brutal words his way.

Speight, who is injured, led the Wolverines to a 49-10 rout against Penn State last year. Before this year’s game, Penn State LB Manny Bowen made clear he was using a Speight quote from last year as motivation. Speight said he imagined it would “suck” to go through play after play of someone running over you.

This year, Penn State had the big win. Penn State routed Michigan on Saturday, 42-13. Speight didn’t play, but he’s still getting tweeted at from at least one Penn State fan.

One tweet was especially vicious.

“Only wish PSU would have been the team to break your neck. #42-13. I think Barkley just ran past my office. Still not caught.”

Speight took the high road in his response.

“#stayclassy,” Speight tweeted.

John O’Korn has been Michigan’s starting quarterback with Speight out. On Monday, teammate Ty Isaac said he’s talking with Speight all the time.

“Dealing with an injury, like anyone else would, you’ve got to rehab and work to get back,” Isaac said about Speight. “I know how bad he wants to be playing right now. He’s got a task at hand right now: Even though it’s not playing for us, it’s to get healthy, so he can be back on the field.”

Michigan is 5-2 this season. The Wolverines play home against Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 28.
