Michigan State fans got their first look Wednesday at the patch the Spartans will wear to honor former coach Jud Heathcote throughout the 2017-18 season. Heathcote, who coached the Spartans from 1976-1995, died at 90 in late August.
Here’s Miles Bridges showing off the “Jud” patch the team will wear on its uniforms this season at Michigan State’s media day:
The patch is one of a few tributes Tom Izzo’s program has in store to honor Heathcote over the 2017-18 campaign. Michigan State has planned a Jud Heathcote Tribute Game on Feb. 10 against Purdue.
Izzo, who worked under Heathcote from 1983-1995, also said he will honor his former boss by playing zone defense on Michigan State’s first defensive possession of the season. “If they score, I’m cursing him up there,” Izzo joked.
