Michigan State center Brian Allen receives Michael R. Sadler Scholar Athlete Award

The Detroit Free Press banquet for the high school football Dream Team took place Sunday night and during it, the Michael R. Sadler Scholar Athlete Award was given out.

The award is in honor of Mike Sadler, a former Spartans punter, who died in a car accident in Wisconsin in 2016. He was the first ever four-time Academic All-American in school history.

The winner of the award is Michigan State center Brian Allen.

Below is a video of Allen accepting the award. Sadler’s mother Karen and Michigan State’s director of personnel and player development Dino Folino presented it.

Allen is a 2017 team captain for the Spartans and has started at center every game this season. He is the highest-rated center in the Big Ten by Pro Football Focus this season and has been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is regarded as the “Academic Heisman.”
