Mario Cristobal to The Rock: ‘Your sideline passes are waiting’

On Friday evening, freshly-minted Oregon coach Mario Cristobal received arguably the most ringing endorsement yet, from none other than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a former teammate at the University of Miami with whom he won a national championship.

“Phenomenal choice by Oregon football  tapping Coach Cristobal as Head Football Coach,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “Coach Cristobal and I had many bad ass, tough battles on the field and in the weight room as we were teammates at the University of Miami. Smart, tough and motivating. Championship DNA. Congrats brother!”

Cristobal caught wind of the tweet, and he had a message for his former teammate turned Hollywood megastar: Your tickets are waiting.

“Thanks brother,” Cristobal wrote on Twitter in reply. “Still sore from those battles…I need you to send me your workout plan ASAP! Your sideline passes are waiting for you. Go Ducks!”

Cristobal played for Miami from 1989-92, winning a pair of national championships, leaving as a First-Team All-Big East offensive tackle. He and The Rock have taken decidedly different career paths since, Cristobal grinding his way up the coaching ladder, Johnson starring in hit films.

Who knows, perhaps an unofficial strength team coach is a possibility for Johnson. His sideline tickets, though, are waiting.
