Manti Te’o on Notre Dame commit Paul Moala: “We got a great one”

Manti Te'o-Paul Moala-commitment-Notre Dame

Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame staff got some good news on Sunday night with the commitment of in-state linebacker Paul Moala. Moala, ranked as the 10th-best player in the class of 2018 in Indiana according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, is the 17th verbal commitment for the Fighting Irish in this cycle.

It turns out the young man shares a close relationship with one of the best Irish linebackers in recent memory.

Former Notre Dame standout Manti Te’o attended the same Mormon church as Moala’s family while at Notre Dame. Te’o, currently with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, posted his congratulations on his Instagram account.

Te’o has mentioned Moala’s father, Pule, as like family, and a man who had been instrumental in his spiritual growth while at Notre Dame.

“My church family…, (including) Uncle Pule Moala, have given me great strength while I’ve been here,” he told the South Bend Tribune back in 2011. “They remind me what’s most important is what happens in church, and they remind me where I came from and where I want to go.”

It’s safe to say that the younger Moala will have one of the school’s all-time greats at linebacker in his corner during his time in South Bend.
