LSU hosting contingent of elite Texas recruits

As we dip into the spring, LSU is bracing for a spree of big recruiting weekends. That begins on Friday.

Ed Orgeron and Co. are slated to host members of the KB3 7-on-7 squad ahead of this weekend’s Pylon event in New Orleans. That includes priority 2019 4-star quarterback Grant Gunnell, 4-star athlete Marquez Beason, 4-star wide receiver Elijah Higgins, stud 2020 defensive back Lejond Cavazos and 2020 athlete Zeriah Beason.

This marks Gunnell’s second visit to Baton Rouge in as many months. The St. Pius X (Texas) High School product attended LSU’s elite junior day in late January along with teammate and 4-star wide receiver target Jalen Curry. However, this is Gunnell’s first trip back since de-committing from Texas A&M earlier this week.

Beason is being courted as a cornerback by LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond. The Tigers signed only one defensive back in their 2018 class — Kelvin Joseph — putting a greater emphasis on the position heading into the 2019 cycle.

Cavazos attended LSU’s junior day last spring and will be making his first trip back this weekend. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety from IMG Academy (Fla.) is one of the premier defensive backs in the Class of 2020.
