Derrius Guice hasn’t quite lived up to the hype he had in the preseason, but that certainly doesn’t mean he hasn’t tried to fill the huge shoes of Leonard Fournette well.
The Baton Rouge native has 6 touchdowns on 124 carries and 711 yards this season. Saturday he seemed to turn up to another level against Ole Miss. He tallied 276 yards on the ground against the Rebels.
His stats put him in some very good company.

Guice’s other huge games came against Arkansas (252) and Texas A&M (285) in 2016 when Fournette was battling ankle issues. While it’s pretty agreeable that Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson are bigger SEC legends, it’s still Guice that stands alone at the top.
It was Guice’s first 100-plus-yard performance since week 2. Winners of three straight games, perhaps this sparks something bigger for Guice and the Tigers in the ground game.
