The annual LSU-Alabama showdown has once again been declared must-see TV.
The Crimson Tide will host the Tigers at 8 p.m. ET on CBS in the SEC game of the week.
For No. 1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0 SEC), the 2017 season has been a cakewalk up to this point. The Crimson Tide are wiping opponents out by an average score of 43-10, with only Texas A&M capable of giving Bama anything close to a fair fight thus far.
For the No. 24 Tigers (6-2, 3-1), the season has been a crucible. LSU was flattened by Mississippi State in its SEC opener, then shocked by Troy for its first non-conference home loss since Nick Saban was in his first year coaching the Tigers. Yet LSU enters the Alabama game in the same spot as the Tide when it comes the the SEC West race — the winner is in the driver’s seat for a trip to Atlanta in the SEC Championship Game.

LSU-Alabama series history
Alabama leads the series 51-25-5.
Some recent series highlights:
2016: Jalen Hurts’ 21-yard scramble for a touchdown breaks a scoreless tie in the fourth quarter. Alabama adds a late field goal to ice a 10-0 win.
2014: A heartbreaker for the Tigers. Alabama drove 55 yards in 50 seconds to set up Adam Griffith’s game-tying field goal with 3 seconds left in regulation. The Tide went on to win 20-13 in overtime on a DeAndrew White touchdown. LSU somewhat miraculously went toe-to-toe with Alabama despite quarterback Anthony Jennings finishing 8-for-26 for 76 yards.
2012: T.J. Yeldon turns an AJ McCarron screen pass into a 28-yard touchdown with 51 seconds left to lead Alabama to a 21-17 win. Bama took possession on the winning drive after a missed 38-yard Drew Alleman field goal, only adding to the heartbreak and frustration for LSU.
Jan. 9, 2012: LSU fails to cross the 50-yard line until late in the game as Alabama cruises to a 21-0 win in the BCS national championship game at the Superdome. It was the first of what is now six straight wins for Alabama in the series.
2011: Not many games have their own Wikipedia entry. This one does. In a showdown of No. 1 vs. No. 2, the Tigers and Crimson Tide put on a defensive clinic for the ages. LSU pulled out the 9-6 win in overtime, giving the Tigers a clear path to the national championship game. Thanks to Oklahoma State’s loss to Iowa State, Alabama would find itself with the opportunity to get a rematch in January — and hasn’t lost to LSU since.
