Kirk Herbstreit says Matt Campbell should be first choice for any school trying to hire new coach

Matt Campbell-Iowa State-Iowa State Cyclones-Iowa State football

Matt Campbell has engineered a quick turnaround for Iowa State this season, and the national media is taking notice.

The Cyclones were up 24-6 at halftime at Texas Tech on Saturday. After watching Iowa State’s dominant effort, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said any athletic director who needs to hire a new coach should look at Campbell first.

Campbell is in his second season with Iowa State after coming from Toledo. A win over Texas Tech would move Iowa State to 5-2 on the season heading into next week’s game against TCU.

His name is sure to be brought up for a lot of coaching openings at the end of this season. Nebraska, Tennessee, Auburn Arkansas and Missouri are among the head coaching positions that could be open.

The most entertaining part of Herbstreit’s tweet? The response from Iowa State Athletics.
