Kirk Herbstreit apologizes to Tennessee DB Rashaan Gaulden after hypocritical tweet

Rashaan Gaulden was not happy with one of Kirk Herbstreit’s tweets. And now Herbstreit is apologizing to the Tennessee defensive back.

Herbstreit apologized to Gaulden after the ESPN commentator praised Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield and his competitive spirit. Gaulden cited that many of the things Herbstreit said about Mayfield, applied to him, who Herbstreit ripped earlier in the year after Gaulden flipped off Alabama fans.

Herbstreit added that he was more disappointed that day with Tennessee’s effort level as a team.

Below you can see Gaulden’s initial tweet to Herbstreit.

The day Herbstreit is referencing, the Volunteers lost 45-7 to the Crimson Tide. It was one of the many embarrassing defeats for Tennessee eon the year, which is why a coaching change was made. Jeremy Pruitt was hired to replace Butch Jones.

Herbstreit’s tweet in praise to Mayfield came after the Oklahoma quarterback won the Heisman Trophy, despite a number of on and off-field incidents. Mayfield and the Sooners will play Georgia in the College Football Playoff. Tennessee will not play in a bowl game.
