NEW YORK — Perched high above New York City, a man and his microphone made magic on Saturday night.

Curtis Burch had sung karaoke and seen the sights, and he’d just watched Kentucky basketball blow by Monmouth in the kind of game Madison Square Garden was built to host. He needed to tell someone — everyone! — what wonders had witnessed. And so Curtis did, on the latest episode of Wildcat Country, your daily Kentucky podcast presented by SEC Country.

  • Curtis breaks down a 93-76 victory that was UK’s sixth straight and improved the Cats’ record to 8-1. Attendance for this bizarre little game was 10,438.
  • Injury updates on point guard Quade Green, who was poked in the right eye and did not return Saturday, and Sacha Killeya-Jones, who sat out with a sprained ankle. Coach John Calipari wasn’t too committal on SKJ.
  • Hamidou Diallo is on a hot streak. After scoring 19 in consecutive games, he topped those career highs with 23 points in his New York homecoming. Hear Calipari explain that “less is more” when it comes to Diallo’s game.
  • Curtis shares the reason he believes Brad Calipari got into the game so early (again) Saturday.

  • What does Cal mean when he says his players aren’t getting the respect they deserve? Perhaps he is miffed that no one is talking about the Cats as a top team right now and none of his 5-star freshmen are being hyped as All-American candidates.
  • PJ Washington has struggled a good bit to start his UK career, but Saturday was a major breakthrough: 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks and 5 of 8 from the field (1 of 2 from 3-point range) and 9 of 9 at the free-throw line. Monmouth coach King Rice worked with Washington on the U19 Team USA and had an interesting take on Washington’s game.
  • What positive might come from freshman star Kevin Knox’s really bad game (1 for 9 shooting and 7 turnovers)? Well, he still finished with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal — which means he didn’t just shut down when he started struggling.
  • Curtis explains a much-tweeted-about exchange between a UK fan and some media she yelled at. There’s more to the story, of course.
  • Calipari mispronounced Louisville — almost certainly on purpose, because Cal — and Cardinals fans were predictably upset about it.
