Kentucky basketball: Wildcats to play No. 13 seed Buffalo, not Arizona in second round of NCAA Tournament

BOISE, Idaho — It’s only been one day, and there’s already madness in Boise. Everything was lined up for a Kentucky-Arizona matchup in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, but instead, the Wildcats will face No. 13 seed Buffalo.

The No. 13 seed Buffalo Bulls upset DeAndre Ayton and the No. 4 seed Arizona Wildcats 89-68 in the first round of the tournament Thursday night.

Buffalo, 27-8, won both the MAC regular season and conference championship. The Bulls averaged 85 points per game coming into the tournament — 7th in the country.

No. 5 seed Kentucky beat No. 12 seed Davidson 78-73 Thursday night to advance to the second round.

Kentucky-Arizona would’ve been one of the marquee matchups of the second round, but now Buffalo will be one of the darlings of the NCAA Tournament.
