The Kansas Jayhawks are traveling to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a game that will essentially decide who wins the Big 12 regular season title.
The Jayhawks are fresh off a 104-74 pounding of Oklahoma and Trae Young, and will heave the benefit of four days of rest coming into the road matchup. Texas Tech is no slouch, but without Zach Smith and potentially without Keenan Evans, their chance at a win is greatly diminished.
The Red Raiders have already beaten the Jayhawks once this season, an 85-73 win in Allen Fieldhouse that solidified them as contenders. The X-factor in the game is simple, if Texas Tech is healthy they’ll be favored. If they aren’t, Kansas could hold the early edge.

Kansas-Texas Tech preview, keys to the game
- Hit open shots. If you get an open shot on Texas Tech, you need to hit it. The Red Raiders boast one of the best defenses in the Big 12 Conference, and you have to take what they give you. If Texas Tech is down Keenan Evans, then it could end up being a defensive slugfest. Take what they give you.
- Don’t get swept up in the crowd. Lubbock is a rowdy place, with some insane fans. There will be some heckling, and some of it might cross the line. The time to debate and talk about that behavior will be after the game ends, not during it. If the Jayhawks want to win, they need to keep their eyes on the prize.
- If Keenan Evans plays, don’t let him take over the game. Evans is a dominant scorer in college basketball, and if he’s healthy, he should be focused on tremendously by the Jayhawks. Texas Tech is undefeated at home in conference games this season, and with Evans healthy, they’ll be even tougher. It’s up in the air whether he plays or not, but if he does, Kansas can’t let him take over. No easy shots, and no free shots.
