Kansas-Iowa State: Time, TV channel, watch online for Week 7 game (October 14, 2017)

Kansas and Iowa State are set to square off in a Week 7 Big 12 showdown on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

The Jayhawks sit at the bottom of the Big 12 standings, remaining winless in league play and on a four-game losing streak since defeating Southeast Missouri State in the season-opener.

Now approaching the mid-point of the 2017 season, the Jayhawks are back on the road, which proves problematic considering Kansas hasn’t won away from home since 2009. Worse yet, Kansas is now pitted against an Iowa State team that’s fresh off one of its biggest wins in program history – a 38-31 road victory over No. 3 Oklahoma. It’s safe to say the odds are in the Jayhawks’ favor.

Kansas-Iowa State preview, keys to the game

Force Iowa State into a low-scoring game

Aside from the 17-7 loss to Texas, Iowa State has scored at least 38 points each time out, including surpassing the 40-point mark three times. In while it’s certainly not an elite offense, Iowa State can score. Meanwhile, Kansas ranks dead last in the Big 12 in points per play (0.33) and points per drive (1.61), so if the Jayhawks are required to put up plenty of points to win, they’re likely going to return to Lawrence with a 1-5 record.

Rely heavily upon Khalil Herbert

There’s good news and bad news when it comes to the Jayhawks rising running back. Dealing with a hamstring injury, Khalil Herbert is a game-time decision against Iowa State, but if he can go, Kansas needs to rely upon him early and often. Courtesy of 494 yards on the ground throughout the last three games, Herbert ranks third in the Big 12 in rushing yards and not only will he be the Jayhawks most potent offensive weapon, but keeping the ball in his hands keeps the clock running and thus, prevents Iowa State from putting up quite as many points.

Pray to the football gods

It’s clear at this point that game planning doesn’t work well for Kansas. Since David Beaty’s arrival ahead of the 2015 season, the Jayhawks are 3-26 and aren’t projected to win another game this season, per ESPN’s FPI. Kansas has been one of the worst Division I programs in the nation as of late and at some point, you just pray to the football gods for some luck and an unexpected win.
