Oklahoma’s backcourt of freshman Trae Young and sophomore Kameron McGusty should be one of the best in the conference, and the Big 12 coaches seem to agree.
McGusty and Young were voted to the preseason All-Big 12 team’s honorable mention on Thursday by the league’s coaches.
McGusty, a 6-foot-5 guard, started 17 games as a freshman and averaged 10.9 points per game and shot 43 percent from the field. Young, who has yet to play an actual game in college, was a 5-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, out of Norman North High School and ranked the No. 16 overall recruit in the 2017 class.
The two should provide Oklahoma with a dynamic backcourt as the Sooners try to bounce back from a 11-20 season to finish the 2016-17 season.
Oklahoma opens its season against East Central in an exhibition on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The Sooners’ first regular-season contest comes against Omaha on Sunday, Nov. 12.
