West Virginia’s Justin Crawford ranked eighth in USA TODAY’s list of the top 10 running backs in college football.
Crawford has rushed for over 100 yards in each of West Virginia’s five games to date. He’s sitting at a stellar 7.0 yards per carry with 562 total rushing yards and six touchdowns. He’s also the only running back in the Big 12 to make USA TODAY’s list.
Crawford’s consistency is a blessing to the Mountaineers. The West Virginia offense utilizes the arm of Will Grier and the length of David Sills most famously, but the Mountaineers are running the ball excellently as well. As a team, they’re running at a clip of 5.4 yards per carry.
The West Virginia offense and Justin Crawford are going to need to be consistent on the ground against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders thrive on taking the ball away, and if the Mountaineers can protect the rock, they’ll thrive.
