Jimbo Fisher discusses why he still hasn’t talked with Deondre Francois on College GameDay

It’s been nearly a week since Jimbo Fisher signed a record-breaking deal to become Texas A&M’s next head football coach, leaving Florida State after eight seasons in Tallahassee.

When news broke that Fisher had accepted the job, Seminoles quarterback Deondre Francois voiced his frustration over social — but mainly because of the way he left the program:

Add that to the whispers that Fisher had not spent any time recruiting or even keeping contact with his 2018 class for an extended period leading into his departure, and well, you have a difficult situation.

Fisher joined College GameDay on Saturday morning and was asked if he and Francois had cleared the air and spoken since his arrival in College Station.

The short answer: no.

“No I haven’t … he was not at the team meeting (when I told the team),” Fisher said. “He was not required to be at the meeting (player discretion due to injury rehabilitation). I left him a phone message. He was a tremendous young man to recruit and coach and he’ll have an unbelievable career.”

Baffling, to say the least. Hopefully the two will be able to connect — initiated by a better effort from Fisher — to close the book and find some closure as both parties move forward.
