Senior receiver James Washington has developed into one of Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy’s all-time favorite players, the coach said during his Monday conference call.
Gundy was asked what it’s been like to witness Washington grow over the years in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and the Cowboys head coach had nothing but positive things to say about his team’s leading receiver.
“He’s one of our all-time favorites. Great young man and very, very humble,” Gundy said. “Hard worker and has developed himself into a fantastic college football player. And I really believe his best years are ahead. He came in here really raw. It’s been a couple of years trying to adjust on the run. He’s just starting to perfect his art now. I think his next 10 years are going to be really special.”
Washington is second in the country with 914 receiving yards through seven games of the season. He has a team-high 38 receptions and 6 receiving touchdown.
Washington, a native of Stamford, Texas, only stands at 6-feet, 205 pounds, but the All-Big 12 wide receiver is making waves as a Biletnikoff Award contender, as well as one of the top receivers in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Oklahoma State is at West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on ABC.
