While there were recent reports that Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry was the top option by Louisiana-Lafayette in its search for a new head coach, Pry is reportedly staying put in Happy Valley.
Pry was Penn State’s long-time linebackers coach before he stepped in as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2016. While meeting with reporters on Friday afternoon, Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin said that Pry will be on Penn State’s campus on Friday.
In addition, Franklin spoke highly about Pry and talked about their strong friendship.
“We talk all the time about everything,” Franklin said of Pry. “About his family, his career, Penn State, other opportunities. Brent’s my guy. He’s been a valued member of our staff since day 1.”
“[He’s] one of my best friends,” Franklin added.
When asked about Pry potentially exploring other coaching opportunities, Franklin said that he is conflicted about it.
“I kind of feel split,” Franklin said. “I want what’s best for Brent and his family, but I also want what’s best for Penn State. … I’m conflicted, professionally and personally.”
Luckily for Franklin, it appears that Pry will be at Penn State for the foreseeable future, and the two will continue to work together on the sidelines.
