According to Matt Keller of BlueGoldNews.com, West Virginia defensive coordinator Jake Spavital thinks that the normally bad Texas Tech is much better this year.
Spavital said, “It’s a completely different team than what you saw last year. I wouldn’t even compare last year’s tape to this year’s tape. I glanced through all of last year’s tape and I moved on from that completely after how they played Oklahoma State, Arizona State and Houston this year.”
This won’t be an easy game for the Mountaineers, but if they win, it’ll likely be something they can point to as a highlight of the season. Texas Tech is legitimately good, and a win here will keep the Mountaineers in the conference championship race.
If West Virginia is going to win, Spavital is going to have to dial up some deep routes. West Virginia has been excellent so far on the deep route, David Sills leads the nation in touchdown receptions. The Mountaineers have size on the shorter Texas Tech defensive backs, and they can utilize that height to their advantage.
