Iowa State and Texas Tech will meet in a matchup of surprise Big 12 teams on Saturday, Oct. 21 2017. Find the game time, channel, streaming information and odds below.

The Cyclones (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) come into this week off a 45-0 blowout win over Kansas. They suddenly have momentum after two straight victories, including a massive road upset against Oklahoma on Oct. 7. With Texas Tech, Baylor and Kansas State still on the schedule, Iowa State now looks to be in great shape to make a bowl game for the first time since 2012.

The Red Raiders (4-2, 1-2 Big 12) climbed up to No. 24 in the AP poll last week after a 4-1 start. Now they have to rebound after surrendering an 18-point lead against West Virginia in a 46-35 road loss.

Iowa State-Texas Tech football picks, odds

Keys to the game for Iowa State vs. Texas Tech

1. Be patient on offense.

The Red Raiders have the No. 92-ranked scoring defense in the FBS, allowing 30.8 points per game. Iowa State will have opportunities to score points. The key will be to remain patient.

Texas Tech is allowing a 44.3 percent success rate to opposing offenses, which ranks 99th in the country, according to Football Study Hall. Iowa State doesn’t need to try to create a bunch of big plays. The Cyclones will get the opportunity to score as long as they keep sustaining drives.

2. Be ready for an emotional start

Iowa State blew out Texas Tech 66-10 last season. So the Cyclones should expect the Red Raiders to be hyped up as they seek revenge for that embarrassing defeat.

Texas Tech will try to hit some big plays early to make a statement after last year. Iowa State needs to remain composed and weather that early storm. Then when the Red Raiders’ emotions die down, be ready to strike back.

3. Treat Lubbock like Norman

Texas Tech is one of the toughest road environments in the Big 12. The Red Raiders have derailed many promising seasons for teams that make the trip to Lubbock.

There are two pieces of good news for Iowa State, though. First, the game is at 11 a.m. Texas Tech is a much more difficult place to play at night, so the Cyclones are fortunate there. Second, they’re already road-tested with their win at Oklahoma earlier this year. As long as they take the same attitude into this game as they took into the game against the Sooners, they won’t be intimidated.
