Iowa State quarterback Re-al Mitchell to appear on reality show

Iowa State freshman Re-al Mitchell will be featured on the reality show “QB1: Beyond the Lights,” according to the Des Moines Register.

The show, set to premier on Feb. 28, follows three quarterbacks during their senior year of high school. He’ll be joined on the show by Georgia commit Justin Fields and Wake Forest commit Sam Hartman.

Mitchell won’t be the first television star in his family, however, per the Des Moines Register’s Tommy Birch. His mother and father starred in “American Gladiators” and “Knights and Warriors,” respectively.

Mitchell’s parent shared details of the show’s process and what Cyclone fans can expect from the series, which will be available on Verizon’s networks.

From the Des Moines Register:

“They filmed home situations, they filmed all his practices, they came to his games, and they filmed activities,” [Sha-ri Mitchell] said. “They filmed daily life situations.”

Mitchell’s father [Rodney Mitchell] said he believes Iowa State fans will like what they see in their behind the scenes look at the quarterback.

“He’s a very collective young man for his age,” Rodney Mitchell said. “He’s really wise and he doesn’t let things get to him. I think you’ll see he’s a calm person under pressure.”

Mitchell, a former 3-star quarterback out of Bellflower, Calif., signed with Iowa State on Dec. 20 and enrolled in classes for the spring semester.

While he’ll likely have to wait his turn with Kyle Kempt returning for one more season, Iowa State fans can at least get to know Mitchell a little better from the reality show.
