Iowa State football tallied one of, if not the, biggest wins in program history against Oklahoma on Saturday, and the internet is having a lot of fun with it.
Reddit user nbighman196 unveiled the latest “college football imperialism map” this week following the results in Week 6. With the Cyclones’ win over the Sooners, fans in Ames and beyond will see something that they likely never would have dreamt of becoming a reality.
The latest map had Iowa State in control of Norman, Okla. for a start. But with Oklahoma having defeated Ohio State earlier in the season, the Cyclones reigned supreme in Columbus, Ohio and the surrounding area on the map.
That’s right. Iowa State — who posted just three wins in each season from 2014-2016 — claimed the home territories of two schools who have combined for a total of 15 national titles.
Iowa State’s 4 territories on the map were tied with Stanford for seventh most on the map. Sixth-ranked TCU was the only Big 12 school with more territories on the map – owning six alongside Alabama and Washington.
The imperialism map doesn’t mean anything – for the most part – when it comes to the real standings in college football. But Iowa State fans should savor what could be a once in a lifetime experience of “owning” both two perennial powerhouses – at least for this week.
