Iowa State will face Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017. Find the score and live updates below.
The Cyclones (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) come into this game off their biggest win since upsetting Oklahoma State in 2011. Last week, Matt Campbell’s squad went into Norman, Okla., and upset the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners. It was Iowa State’s first win in the series since 1990.
The Jayhawks (1-4, 0-2 Big 12) are trying to notch their first Big 12 win of the year. They were in a one-score game with West Virginia in the fourth quarter, but then they got blown out against Texas Tech. This may be their best chance at a conference win this year besides Baylor, but after last week, their chances don’t look so great.

Iowa State-Kansas: Keys to the game for the Cyclones
1. Put last week behind you
Iowa State pulled off the upset of the year last weekend, taking down Oklahoma 38-31 on the road. After such a huge win, Iowa State has received all sorts of praise from national media all week. But the Cyclones can’t afford to bask in the glory of that victory, or they’ll risk getting upset themselves.
Matt Campbell needs to make sure his team is focused and ready to play the Jayhawks. The win over the Sooners makes getting a bowl berth a real possibility, but that will shift dramatically if the Cyclones can’t handle their business against one of the worst teams in college football.
2. Look for some big plays on offense
Kansas has one of the worst defenses in the country, and it’s especially vulnerable to giving up big plays. The Jayhawks have allowed 36 plays of 20 yards or more this season. That ranks No. 121 in the country.
The Cyclones created some explosive plays on offense last week with new quarterback Kyle Kempt. Now they just have to keep it going. Expect them to look for wide receiver Allen Lazard deep a few times, as well as get the ball to running back David Montgomery in space.
3. Contain Khalil Herbert
The Kansas running back already has 503 rushing yards on the season, and 291 of those yards came against West Virginia. He’s the Jayhawks’ best weapon on offense, so expect him to get the ball a lot.
If Iowa State can limit Herbert and get an early lead, the Jayhawks will probably have to abandon the run game in order to keep up on the scoreboard. But if the defense lets Kansas create some long drives behind Herbert’s running ability, the Cyclones could be in for a closer game than they would like.
