Becoming a Hawkeye

Class of 2018 defensive end John Waggoner committed to Iowa last Tuesday. Land of 10 explained how it happened and why a six-day window in late November/early December was vital.

Safety first

Former Iowa tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz has suffered at least four concussions in the last two years. As a result, his NFL career is in jeopardy. This past weekend, Fiedorowicz told Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle he wants to keep playing football if possible.

Staying put

Iowa commit D.J. Johnson received an offer from LSU last week. He didn’t bite on it. Johnson, a Class of 2018 defensive back, took an official visit to Iowa and reaffirmed his commitment on Sunday.

Defensive back Dallas Craddieth liked his official visit to Iowa, but he didn’t commit. Craddieth told Rob Howe of he may not sign until February. He wants to also visit Illinois, Nebraska and Indiana.

Also, Howe spoke with wide receiver Calvin Lockett about his official visit. Lockett plans to take an official visit to Florida International and possibly make a trip to South Florida, too.

Finally, junior college linebacker Will Honas told Howe he expects to announce a decision just before the Dec. 20 signing period begins and sign in December.

Winning ways

Iowa men’s basketball snapped a four-game losing skid with a 91-60 win over Southern on Sunday. Land of 10 recaps the game and Luka Garza’s big day.

Put him on the mat

The Hawkeyes recorded 36 takedowns in a dual meet win at Maryland on Sunday. Cody Goodwin of the Des Moines Register recaps the dominant 40-6 victory.

Moving on

Tight end Anthony Torres committed to Iowa back in July. He officially left the team’s Class of 2018 when he committed to Western Michigan on Sunday.

Brandon Snyder update

Safety Brandon Snyder was charged with OWI on Sunday morning. Coach Kirk Ferentz released a statement later in the day.
