Detroit RB has offer

Detroit sophomore running back Peny Boone was impressed with how hard Iowa works in the weight room when he took an unofficial visit to the football complex, Hawkeye Nation’s Rob Howe reports.

Kid captain nominations open

Nominations for Iowa football’s kid captain program are now open. Parents and legal guardians can nominate pediatric patients at the UI Children’s Hospital to serve in that wonderful role. Captains receive a jersey, recognition from the football team and a tour of Kinnick Stadium in August.

James Daniels eyes NFL combine

Former Iowa center James Daniels said college went way too fast and now he’s concentrating on his NFL future, writes Dan Hiner of The Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator.

Making unwanted history

Iowa women’s basketball player Megan Gustafson leads the Big Ten in scoring and has set the school’s single-season record for both points and rebounds. The Des Moines Register’s Chad Leistikow writes that Gustafson deserves to be named B1G player of the year.

Moss posts career high in loss

Despite the Hawkeyes losing another Big Ten game, sophomore guard Isaiah Moss posted a career-high 32 points, including 19 in the final 96 seconds, writes The Des Moines Register’s Mark Emmert. The Gazette’s Mike Hlas analyzed Moss’ performance.

Bob the bopper

Iowa outfielder Robert Neustrom is the Big Ten’s preseason player of the year and the key to the baseball team’s offensive attack, reports Adam Rossow of WHBF-TV.
