Iowa creates special ‘Snow Wave’ at Kinnick Stadium

The Kinnick Wave does not have an offseason.

Staff members at Iowa drew a special “Snow Wave” on the field at Kinnick Stadium on Thursday morning. It’s a wintertime version of the Kinnick Wave, the Hawkeyes’ heartwarming tradition of waving to patients at the children’s hospital during home games.

Workers at Iowa used a snowblower and shovels to create a gigantic hand waving at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital across the street from Kinnick Stadium. They also carved out the words “snow wave.”

The #FTK hashtag (For the Kids) was added in the middle of the hand. It’s a reference to Iowa’s Dance Marathon, an annual event which raises money for the children’s hospital.

Iowa set up a live stream of the Snow Wave, which can be viewed here.

The Hawkeyes released a time lapse video of the grounds crew making the Snow Wave on Thursday afternoon.

The Kinnick Wave, which was started in 2017, won the Disney Spirit Award last season.
