Internet praises Texas A&M’s dominant first half performance against North Carolina

2018 NCAA Tournament-Texas A&M-North Carolina-1st half

We’ve seen a number of upsets in the first two rounds of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. And if the Texas A&M Aggies play like they did in the first half against North Carolina for the final 20 minutes, then we’ll have another one.

The Aggies ended the half on a 29-8 run and held the potent Tar Heels’ offense scoreless for a 6 minute stretch, as Texas A&M took a 42-28 lead into halftime against the defending champs.

Texas A&M’s 2-3 zone defense has made life difficultly for North Carolina. On the offensive end, the Aggies front court has given them a clear advantage as Tyler Davis and Robert Williams combined for 17 points and 14 rebounds in the first half, continuing their strong play from the first round against Providence.

Many took to Twitter to praise Texas A&M’s efforts against a team many had pegged as a Final Four team.

The Aggies were 1 of 6 SEC to reach the second round of the tournament, but so far SEC teams are 1-3 in the second round with only Kentucky advancing to the Sweet 16. But the Aggies have at least shown they are very game for whatever North Carolina will throw at them.

If Texas A&M can beat the Tar Heels, the Aggies would advance to the Sweet 16 to take on Michigan on Thursday. When the Aggies made the NCAA Tournament in 2016, Texas A&M also advanced to the Sweet 16. The game can be seen on CBS.
