Any team that’s 5-1 by this point in the season should draw some attention from the national media. Auburn is doing just that as they head into Baton Rouge in what should be a significant road test against the Tigers.
Wins over both Mississippi schools along with a team ranked 22nd in the nation in rushing yards and sixth in points against puts a target squarely on Auburn’s back as a team which could make the College Football Playoff.
Gary Danielson agreed on the Paul Finebaum Show Wednesday:
One of the themes going around college football is that the coaching in the SEC is way down and thats why the league is down and i don’t see that. One of the great coaching jobs being done right now is Gus Malzahn. they’re going to be a legitimate threat to anyone because they’re ironing out the kinks. They’re a good solid football team and I know they’re a better team now than they were at Clemson.
At No. 10 in the country, the Tigers only lost to Clemson by eight points. They have strengths on both sides of the ball, but chief among them is the power of Kerryon Johnson, whose early-season performance might land him in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.
That all depends, however, on whether or not the Tigers can execute against what’s sure to be a loud crowd in Baton Rouge on Saturday with Danielson on the call.
