FSU leading scorer Terance Mann (groin) not expected to play vs. Xavier in second round of NCAA Tournament

Unless he makes miraculous strides by tomorrow, Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton doesn’t foresee his top scorer playing in the Seminoles’ matchup vs. Xavier on Sunday, according to Orlando Sentinel reporter Safid Deen.

However Hamilton didn’t officially rule Terance Mann, who sustained a groin muscle strain, out of FSU’s second-round game in the NCAA Tournament.

Mann wasn’t seen with his teammates prior to Saturday’s practice after two groin injuries in No. 9 seed Florida State’s  67-54 victory vs. No. 8 seed Missouri on Friday night.

Hamilton says Mann met with doctors, had an MRI on Saturday and he didn’t have any test results.

“He was quite sore last night,” Hamilton said of Mann. “I don’t expect him to play, unless the doctor comes and tells me something different. But we have to wait and see.

“I don’t have anything officially I can tell you other than that he had been bothered by that prior to coming to the tournament.”

Mann, a junior who is FSU’s most experienced player, leads the team in points (13.2) and rebounds (5.7) in addition to shooting 56 percent overall.

Yet Mann has been limited by many injuries recently for FSU, as he’s been limited to single digit points in 7 of his last 9 games.

“I’m feeling fine,” Mann said after the game. “Hopefully I have to see what the doctors say to see if I’ll be able to go.”

Mann said he would not have been able to return to the game after his second fall.

Mann slipped twice agains Missouri, once in each half. After coming back for the second half, Mann’s legs split apart and he laid face down on the ground in grueling pain.

Many players, such as FSU center Ike Obiagu and forward P.J. Savoy, slipped on the floor at Bridgestone Arena, where the NHL’s Nashville Predators plays.

“If you noticed last night, there was several kids that slipped on the floor,” Hamilton said. “Obviously, I hope that’s not the case when we play (Sunday) night, but he did slide, and it was very painful. We just thought that he was not at the level that we could utilize him for the remainder of the game.”
