Former Vols RB Charlier Garner says Jon Gruden ‘absolutely’ would consider Tennessee job

Jon Gruden has become one of the most widely discussed names among the Tennessee fan base and SEC media for a potential replacement for Butch Jones as the head coach in Knoxville.

Often, however, the question arises of whether Gruden would want to leave the role he has now in order to take on the college grind of recruiting and building an entire program.

On Monday, a former player with unique connections to both Tennessee and Gruden weighed in on the topic. Charlie Garner played running back for Tennessee in the early 1990’s and also played for Gruden in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here’s his view on the Gruden to Tennessee possibility.

Of course, for the Gruden option to even be considered, Tennessee has to fire Butch Jones, which as of today has not happened yet.

Through this season’s struggles Garner is staying positive.
