Former TCU analyst Sonny Dykes to coach SMU in Frisco Bowl

Sonny Dykes is getting started quickly in his new role as the head coach at SMU.

The former TCU analyst reached a deal to become the Mustangs’ new coach on Monday. According to the Dallas Morning News’ Adam Grosbard, he will coach SMU in the Frisco Bowl against one of his former teams, Louisiana Tech. Former SMU interim head coach Jeff Traylor is leaving to take a job on Chad Morris’ staff at Arkansas after getting passed over for Dykes.

Dykes spent the 2017 season as an offensive analyst and consultant for TCU after getting fired as the head coach at Cal in January. He is 41 -45 overall as a head coach at Cal and Louisiana Tech.
