Former South Carolina DE Jadaveon Clowney calls Blake Bortles ‘trash’ after blowout loss

Typically, postgame smack talk is reserved for players on the winning team, but there’s nothing typical about former South Carolina DE Jadaveon Clowney.

He’s one of the best pass rushers in the league and has been a force since before his days with the Gamecocks. But he didn’t help his team much on Sunday, as the Texans took a rough 45-7 loss to Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After the game, Clowney was asked if Bortles — who threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-29 passing Sunday — was improving. His response wasn’t exactly humbling:

Bortles isn’t having a great season, but this is shaping up to be his best effort in his four-year career. His completion percentage is over 60 percent for the first time as a pro and he’s sitting at just eight interceptions with only a couple games left.

The Jaguars also dispatched Clowney’s Texans comfortably in Week 1, winning 29-7. Bortles threw for a touchdown pass on 11-of-21 passing while letting the Jags’ run game do most of the work.

Regardless, Clowney’s decision to downplay Bortles’ ability after losing to him by 38 points is questionable at best and classless at worst. If Bortles is still in Jacksonville next season, expect this game to be circled on his calendar once again.
