Former Oregon defensive lineman Rutger Reitmaier will transfer to Vanderbilt

A Nashville native is coming home.

Rutger Reitmaier, a U.S. Army All American in the class of 2017, has announced that Vanderbilt will be his new school following his decision to transfer from Oregon.

Reitmaier committed to Oregon and enrolled early last winter before deciding to transfer this summer. The defensive lineman, listed at 6 feet 3 inches and 270 pounds, went to high school at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville.

Tennessee was thought to be the frontrunner to land Reitmaier, given that current Volunteers defensive line coach Brady Hoke recruited him to Oregon while Hoke served as the defensive coordinator in Eugene.

Despite not playing in a game for the Ducks and enrolling early at Vanderbilt, Reitmaier will have to sit out the 2018 season before being eligible to play for the Commodores in the 2019 season.
