A sad piece of news for all fans of Ole Miss athletics.
Former Rebels basketball star Justin Reed, who since at least July was courageously battling a form on cancer in his spine, passed away early Friday morning, according to the Ole Miss Spirit.
He was just 35 years old.
Reed had an incredible career on the court in Oxford. He was an All-SEC selection all four years of his collegiate career and a candidate for the prestigious Wooden Award twice.
During his freshman season, Reed led the Rebels to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, and in his senior year his 18.5 points per game led the SEC.
The Celtics drafted Reed in 2004, and his NBA career included time with Boston, the Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
He will be missed.
