Former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu joins Houston Texans

It didn’t take long for Tyrann Mathieu to find a new NFL team.

Late Friday, the Houston Texans announced that they had signed the former LSU defensive back. The announcement came two days after the Arizona Cardinals released Mathieu, who couldn’t come to an agreement on financial terms with his now-former franchise.

It’s not surprising to see Mathieu land somewhere so quickly. After all, he had flashes at Arizona as a dynamic defensive presence. The height of his time with the Cardinals came during the 2015 season, when he was named to the Pro Bowl. He played a full 16-game regular season for the first time in his career last year, finishing with 78 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack.

Mathieu has 307 tackles with 11 interceptions since the Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He had 133 tackles and 4 interceptions with LSU during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
