Former Baylor DB Xavien Howard named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Xavien Howard has been arguably the best defensive player in the NFL in December. He’s had a pair of interceptions in each of the games he’s played in this month, and for his efforts, he’s been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

In his most recent game, Howard picked off Tom Brady twice. That’s a feat any cornerback will be able to look back on with pride.

Howard was selected by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 38th pick. He was used sparingly as a rookie, but has been nothing but dominant in the second half of the 2017 season. It’s pretty easy to make the case that Howard’s been one of the best in the entire league this season.

At Baylor, Howard was pretty good as well. In his three seasons with the Bears he notched 10 interceptions, five in his third and final year in Waco.
