Florida offers Tommy Bush

The Gators have a new name on their recruiting board.

Top-200 overall prospect Tommy Bush landed an offer from Florida on Wednesday night. The 4-star wide receiver is from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas.

The offer came after an in-home visit with Gators quarterback coach Brian Johnson, who spent last season at Houston. Johnson served as the Cougars offensive coordinator and recruited Bush early on in his process.

He received an offer from Houston on Feb. 5 after attending a junior day event that weekend. Johnson had been on the Cougars staff for more than a month at the time.

Bush received more than 20 offers in the month of February, including Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Mississippi State.

The 6-foot-5, 191-pound pass catcher holds almost 50 offers and in-state Texas is considered the team to beat. Bush took trips to Baylor, Michigan State and Nebraska this fall, and he’ll officially visit Georgia this weekend.

He plans to commit on National Signing Day and the Gators will make a push for an official visit in January. Bush is ranked the nation’s No. 37 wide receiver and No. 193 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite.

Other options at wide receiver

Former Florida commit Jacob Copeland is the No. 1 target and will receive a visit Thursday from Gators wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales. Copeland is expected to visit Alabama and Florida in January and will be at Tennessee this weekend.

Another top target for the Gators is 4-star WR Anthony Schwartz, who plans to announce his decision on Jan. 4 at the Under Armour All-America Game. Auburn and Florida are the finalists for Schwartz, who named the Tigers  his leader after attending the Iron Bowl.

Gators coach Dan Mullen offered Mississippi State WR commits Malik Heath and Stephen Guidry, but both are expected to stick with the Bulldogs. Mullen has also offered recent Florida State de-commitment Antoine Green and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) WR Kevin Johnson.

The Gators have a pair of pledges at the position in Corey Gammage and Tyquan Thornton. Gammage almost de-committed during the coaching change and plans to take trips to Auburn, Louisville and Iowa State. Thornton visited Baylor on Dec. 1, but he returns to Florida this weekend and will sign early on Dec. 20.
