Dan Mullen has landed his defensive commitment in his time at Florida, as 3-star safety prospect John Huggins announced that he was committed to the Gators and would be signing with them on Wednesday as part of the early signing period.

Huggins, who was on an official visit to Florida this weekend, tweeted that he was 1,000 percent committed to the Gators.

Huggins is listed at 6-foot-2 and hails from Daytona Beach, Fla. He is the second safety prospect in the class, joining fellow 3-star commitment Randy Russell. Huggins it eh No. 32 ranked safety in the class. Huggins was one of three defensive backs on an official visit this weekend, joining 4-star safety Trey Dean and 4-star cornerback Brendan Radley-Hiles.

The addition of Huggins stops a string of de-commitments, as the Gators saw their prized quarterback commit, Matt Carrol, de-commit on Thursday and then had 4-star wide receiver Tyquan Thornton flip his commitment from Florida to Baylor on Saturday. The Gators’ once promising class now sits at No. 36 in the country, and No. 10 in the SEC.

Florida did have a number of big time players on campus this weekend for official visits, such highly-touted 4-star quarterback Emory Jones. Per SEC Coutnry’s Zach Abolverdi, Florida also had Ole Miss wide receiver Van Jefferson on campus for a visit.
