Tennessee continued its recent slide in Week 7, dropping an offensive struggle in Knoxville to South Carolina by a 15-9 margin.
Jarrett Guarantano connected on 11 of 18 passes for 133 yards in his starting debut for the Vols. The redshirt freshman failed
to jump-start the Tennessee offense, which was led by running back John Kelly and his 58 rushing yards.
All told, the Vols posted 253 yards of total offense.
Despite the struggles, Butch Jones’ squad had an opportunity to win or, at least, tie the game in the final moments.
A South Carolina pass interference penalty set up Guarantano with a first down on the Gamecocks’ 2-yard line with nine seconds
to play, but the first-year signal caller failed to get the Vols into the end zone on three attempts. Tennessee has now gone
10 quarters without scoring a touchdown.
Predictably, Vols faithful were none too pleased with their team’s performance.

Shame on the Vol fans for leaving in such a close game. The kids on the field need support. Butch is another thing, but support
We definitely found our new QB. He is a player and a winner. Terrible play calling. He has a much better arm than they give
him credit for. Roll him out and let him pass or tuck and run every play.
Three times in the red zone and you can’t punch in for a score!! Get rid of that O Coordinator. Has been the problem since
the start weakest link. Butch better make a change or he will Be next. It needs to happen right now, Butch.
Chris L Schubert:
There should be a clause in his contract that says if you can’t score a TD in 10 quarters you get nothing…
We have the lamest coaches ever!!! The entire football coach staff needs to go! There was no reason to keep throwing that
ball! Too much talent wasted by horrible play calling from coaches!
If I wake up tomorrow and the headline doesn’t read “Butch Jones out at Tennessee” I may seriously have to become a Vandy
You could have Bart Starr or whomever and this coaching staff wouldn’t know what to do, when, where or how….
Only bowl for Tennessee will be corn flakes for breakfast.
I’m glad we lost. If you can lose against a weak team like South Carolina, it shows that we need a new head coach because
we do have talent. We just ain’t got a coach that knows how to use it. Thank you South Carolina for beating us, because now
we get a new head coach and hopefully it’s a better coach that wants to win in the SEC. Because this coach can’t play an SEC
team we might as well be a Big 10 team. Thank you again South Carolina for beating us.
