For the second consecutive week, ESPN has chosen to send its popular college football pregame show, College GameDay, to Penn State’s game rather than to Notre Dame’s matchup in South Bend, Ind.
Penn State will visit Ohio State while Notre Dame hosts N.C. State in Week 9.

In Week 8, ESPN’s College GameDay was in Happy Valley, P.a. for Penn State-Michigan. Notre Dame was at home and played rival USC, which was a Top 15 matchup. Penn State sat at No. 2, but Michigan was ranked No. 19 coming into the weekend. Coincidentally, both games became blowouts with the home teams winning big.
It’s been awhile since the Fighting Irish were featured on College GameDay. Notre Dame last appeared on the pregame show on Oct. 31, 2015 when Notre Dame visited Temple in Philadelphia. But the last time College GameDay visited South Bend, Ind. was now more than five years ago – Oct. 13, 2012 – when the Fighting Irish hosted Stanford.
Notre Dame went undefeated in the regular season that year and advanced to the BCS National Championship. College GameDay featured the Irish multiple times that season, but that was the lone time Notre Dame hosted the show.
The Fighting Irish could still appear on the pregame show because undefeated Miami and rival Stanford remain on the schedule. But both of those are road games for the Irish. This week was Notre Dame’s last real chance to host College GameDay.
