A day after Maryland basketball missed on a big 2018 target, it added a commitment from another one. 4-star SG Eric Ayala committed to the Terps Saturday in a ceremony at his high school, giving them their third verbal commit in the class.

Devin Dotson, another 4-star guard, chose Kansas over Maryland on Friday. Ayala’s decision seemed dependent on Dotson’s, as he announced his commitment date right after Dotson did.

Ayala has been linked to Maryland for some time, and a decision seemed imminent after that. The Delaware native, who plays for IMG Academy in Florida, was choosing between the Terps, Oregon and Miami. Ayala is the No. 76 overall recruit for 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 6 combo guard and No. 11 Florida player in the class.

Now, Maryland can move in on its top remaining targets: Center Moses Brown and guard Keldon Johnson, both 5-star recruits on the 247Sports Composite.

Maryland already had 5-star PF Jalen Smith and 4-star SF Aaron Wiggins committed for 2018, and Ayala’s addition sets up the Terps for a stellar recruiting class.
