No. 1 Duke suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, as the Blue Devils fell to unranked Boston College on the road, 89-84.
Duke, which has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press’s Top 25 rankings since the preseason, has been battling with No. 2 Kansas and No. 3 Michigan State for the top spot in college basketball. With Duke’s loss on Saturday, there could potentially be a shake up in the Week 6 AP rankings.
Duke’s loss on Saturday wasn’t the first upset in the top three this week, though, as Kansas fell to Washington, 74-65, on Wednesday at home for its first loss of the season.
While Kansas and Duke both fell to unranked teams, Michigan State’s only loss of the season came at the hands of Duke on Nov. 14, 88-81.
Michigan State is set to take on Southern Utah on Saturday night, and a win would likely push the Spartans ahead of both Kansas and Duke for the No. 1 spot in Week 6. The AP will release its new rankings on Monday.
The Spartans will look to take care of business on Saturday as they will tip off against Southern Utah at 6 p.m. ET (on the Big Ten Network) at the Breslin Center.
