Marvin Bagley III is hoping to help Duke mount a championship run in what is expected to be his only season with the program and his title efforts begin on Thursday. However, Bagley might have to deal with some added distraction after his father called out a rival at North Carolina.
In defense of Grayson Allen, Marvin Bagley, Jr. posted pictures of Tar Heels guard Joel Berry going to the rim leading with his elbows and asked if Berry should be considered a dirty player, according to a report from Ross Martin of InsideCarolina.com.
“Some players lead with their elbows on all contested layups. Is this a dirty player?” Bagley asked. “I pick Grayson Allen 10/10 times to go to war!”
The pictures and comments were posted on March 10, just one day after North Carolina eliminated Duke from the ACC Tournament with a 74-69 victory. Allen hip-checked Garrison Brooks in the contest and was assessed with a flagrant one foul, sparking nationwide debate again on whether or not he was a dirty player.
No. 2-seeded Duke is set to take on No. 15 seed Iona on Thursday and Allen’s recent turn in the headlines even led to an Iona player commenting on his reputation as a dirty player. However, in Bagley’s biased opinion Allen wasn’t even the dirtiest player on the floor that night against North Carolina.
