The Duke Blue Devils dropped to No. 12 in the AP Top 25 on Monday. They fell three spots from No. 9 in the rankings last week.
Duke went 1-1 this past week since the last poll. The Blue Devils lost their second straight and third contest in four games on Thursday when they fell at Durham to rival North Carolina, 82-78. That was the second straight game where the Blue Devils collapsed in the second half, blowing a multi-possession halftime lead.
On the Saturday prior to that loss, the Blue Devils lost to St. John’s in what might end up being the biggest upset of the entire men’s college basketball season. Since then, St. John’s also beat then No. 1 Villanova, but at the time of the Duke loss to the Red Storm, St. John’s was on an 11-game losing streak. The Blue Devils also recently lost to then No. 2 Virginia at home.
But Duke did bounce back to win Sunday at Georgia Tech, 80-69. Senior guard Grayson Allen led the team with 23 points and 6 assists in the victory.
In addition to Duke, the ACC had three other teams in the AP Top 25 this week. Virginia lost to rival Virginia Tech on Saturday but actually moved up to No. 1. North Carolina rose to No. 14 while Clemson came in at No. 11. Miami fell out of the poll after being ranked No. 25 last week.
