Duke basketball stays No. 4 in AP Top 25

The Duke basketball team didn’t play a game this week, taking the week off as players took their final exams. As a result, Duke remained No. 4 in the AP Top 25.

In Duke’s last game, it lost the No. 1 ranking due to an 89-84 upset at the hands of Boston College. Prior to the loss, Duke, which began the season ranked No. 1, had won its first 11 games, including neutral-site wins over Michigan State and Florida. The loss to the Eagles, however, dropped the Blue Devils three spots in both the AP and Coaches’ polls.

This week, Wichita State, which was ranked No. 3 last week, lost to Oklahoma, but Duke did not rise to replace the Shockers. Instead, Arizona State leapt over Duke, moving from No. 5 to No. 3.

Thanks to a jam-packed early schedule that included three games in three days at the PK-80 tournament, Duke will play just one game this week as well. The Blue Devils will host Evansville Wednesday night in their second-to-last non-conference game of the season. (They take a break from ACC play to face St. John’s on Feb. 3.) After that, Duke will face Florida State in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 30.
