Florida coach Dan Mullen announced another new hire to his coaching staff Friday, adding Tennessee defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator Charlton Warren.
Warren launched his coaching career at the Air Force Academy, his alma mater, from 2005-13 before spending a season coaching the defensive backs at Nebraska, two seasons in the same role at North Carolina and then last season with the Vols.
Warren is the fifth assistant coach Mullen has hired since taking over the program, following offensive assistants Billy Gonzales, John Hevesy and Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.
Those four and new Gators strength coach Nick Savage all worked with Mullen at Mississippi State.
Florida also has two holdovers still from the previous staff in linebackers coach Tim Skipper and running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, though there has not been an official announcement about their long-term status.
Last season at Mississippi State, with Grantham as his defensive coordinator, Mullen had separate coaches for the cornerbacks and safeties so it remains to be seen what Warren’s official role will be. It was not specified in Florida’s new release.
