DE commit Samuel Anaele earns Future 50 invitation, plans to visit Miami this month

Samuel Anaele-Under Armour All-America Camp

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — This time last year, Samuel Anaele‘s football knowledge was pretty rudimentary. The strongside defensive end arrived in Florida from Nigeria just about this time last year. He had mostly been a basketball player, but knew with his frame and athletic ability he could become a great defensive end.

It didn’t take long for most of the college world to agree. Florida, Tennessee, Michigan and Oregon all offered in June. Miami, his new hometown team, offered in July. The initial 247Sports rankings for the Class of 2020 quickly pegged him as a 4-star prospect in August.

Now one of the nation’s most prestigious All-America showcases is taking notice, too. With a strong performance at an Under Armour All-America Camp on Sunday in Coconut Creek, Anaele secured an invitation to the Future 50 combine ahead of the Under Armour All-America Game.

“It means a lot to me,” Anaele told DieHards at North Broward Preparatory School. “I’m happy the hard work today paid off.”

Anaele is quickly starting to look like a potential gem in the Hurricanes’ top-ranked 2020 class. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound defensive lineman, who recently transferred to Doral (Fla.) Academy Preparatory School, committed to Miami on Jan. 15 and remains firm in his pledge despite former defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski’s departure for the same job at Alabama.

Anaele hasn’t had a chance to meet new defensive line coach Jess Simpson yet, but an opportunity should be coming later this month. The 4-star prospect will make his way to Coral Gables, Fla., on March 31 for a date the Hurricanes are reserving for top 2020 targets.

“Not yet, but soon,” Anaele said. “Very soon.”

Even without meeting Simpson, Anaele feels good about the situation in Miami. The defensive end doesn’t have any other visits lined up for the spring, and he expects to like Simpson once he meets him.

“I looked him up and [he] used to be with the Falcons, and I looked at the defense and they looked pretty solid, so he seems like a good fit,” Anaele said. “I’m glad to have him on the coaching staff.”
