This was on NCAA football signing day, one of the most over-hyped days in sports, when “experts” converse on who won the recruiting wars. You don’t want to know how many schools “win” that day, then never see the national championship game.
But this week was made more interesting because Rodriguez was asked to interview Hoke. Rodriguez noted UM’s improved facilities and wanted to know if they were “making an impact in the recruiting process?”
Hoke didn’t mention that Michigan could win with two barbells in the weight room since it is the all-time winningest NCAA program, or ask RichRod why the facilities didn’t help him.
Instead, he kindly said, “I don’t think there is any doubt (the facilities helped). I hadn’t been in these facilities in some time. It kind of wowed me, to be honest with you. So I can imagine 18-19-year old guys when you come in here, there are no excuses ... There are no excuses for us not to compete at a high level every time we take the field.”
In three seasons during which UM set school records for points allowed, Rodriguez was 15-22.
If Hoke has a mean streak, he’s saving it for games.
