College baseball rankings are already a topic of discussion after two weeks of action in the SEC.
The league placed eight teams in the new D1Baseball.com Top 25, which was released on Monday. Perhaps more impressive than more than half of the league being included in the rankings is that five SEC teams remain in the Top 10.
Florida, which is the defending national champion, maintained its No. 1 ranking in spite of dropping its first game of the season last week. The Gators took two of 3 from in-state rival Miami, but the Hurricanes did hand Florida its first loss of the season with a 2-0 win on Sunday. It was not enough to move the Gators off the top spot, as they remained ahead of Oregon State (8-0) in the rankings.
Arkansas dropped one spot from No. 4 to No. 5 after losing a pair of one-run games to Cal Poly and San Diego over the weekend.
Kentucky moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 after rebounding from a midweek loss to Xavier to sweep Oakland.
Ole Miss and Texas A&M held tight at No. 9 and No. 10 this week, with each maintaining a perfect 7-0 record out of the gate. Vanderbilt moved up from No. 13 to No. 12 after a weekend sweep of UMass Lowell.
Mississippi State rebounded from the drama of Andy Cannizaro’s departure from the program, maintaining the No. 21 spot in the poll after winning three of four games to erase the sting of a season-opening sweep at the hands of Southern Miss.
LSU moved up one spot in the poll from No. 23 to No. 22 thanks to a series win against Texas. The Tigers took two of three from the Longhorns, who are now occupying the No. 23 spot in the rankings, during a weekend set in Baton Rouge.
